Chinese New Year workshops capture the imaginations of pupils at Cedars Park Primary School in Stowmarket
Children have taken part in a dazzling dragon dance as they learned all about Chinese New Year.
Pupils at Cedars Park Primary School in Stowmarket, which is part of the John Milton Academy Trust, were treated to a Chinese New Year workshop on Monday, January 9, and Friday, January 13.
They enjoyed learning all about the country, the year of the rabbit and took part in dancing with traditional paper fans.
They then donned a dragon costume and parasols, taking part in their own colourful parade.
Josie Taquinio-Singh, from Education Group, which led the events, said the workshops had really captured the children’s imaginations.
“The children have absolutely loved it,” she said.
“Each class first took part in a fan dance and then dressed up for the dragon parade at the end.
“They have really enjoyed themselves. It’s great for them to learn about different countries and cultures across the world.”
Every class in the school took part in the workshops, which were split between sessions on Monday and Friday.
Lucy White, Lower KS2 Raising Standards lead, said: “With Chinese New Year coming up soon, we wanted to bring the celebrations to Cedars Park for the children to experience.
“The children had a great time in the workshops and have learned a lot about Chinese New Year and Chinese culture.”
