Stowmarket Town's long-term future at their Greens Meadow base has been secured.

It was confirmed yesterday evening that the Stowmarket Community Sports & Social Club CIC had agreed terms on a 99-year lease with MSDC and the Church Trust, who are the landlords of the venue.

The new unison extends the club's tenure at the ground, which began in 1983.

"It has taken many years of negotiations, meetings and presentations to reach this point," said John Griffin, COO of the CIC. "But thanks to the support of our brilliant volunteers and key members of the district council, we are at last able to move forward and to start implementing our exciting plans."

The football club, who were promoted to Step 4 ahead of the current campaign getting under way, can now also start to develop areas of the ground which will allow them to maintain their league status.

Chairman Neil Sharp added: "Knowing that we now have a home, takes a great deal of pressure off the club, however, we don't have time to stand back and admire the effort, we need to keep driving forward and will do just that."

The CIC and the football club are also looking for volunteers to help take the club forward. Any interested parties should contact info@stowmarkettownfc.co.uk for more information.
