Lily Hibbert, 19, of Stowmarket, takes on 75-day hula hooping charity challenge for Parkinson’s UK in honour of her late nan

A teenage girl has turned her hula hooping hobby into a 75-day charity challenge.

Lily Hibbert, 19, of Stowmarket, raised £125 after she hula hooped for half an hour a day in aid of Parkinson’s UK.

She did the challenge, which ran from mid-January to the end of March, in honour of her late nan, Betty, who was diagnosed with the disease in 2012 and died in September.

Lily said: “My lovely late nan lived with Parkinson’s and bought me my first hula hoop for my 17th birthday.

“She inspired me to take on the challenge and raise money for Parkinson's UK who support people living with the condition and their loved ones.”

Lily’s family regularly used the Parkinson’s UK website for advice at the different stages of her nan’s illness.

She hopes the challenge raised awareness of the condition and will help aid research to enable other families to be helped.

Parkinson’s is the fastest growing neurological condition in the world and currently there is no cure.

It affects around 153,000 people in the UK. There are over 40 symptoms, from tremor and pain to anxiety.
