Weird and Wonderful Wood attracts thousands to Haughley Park, near Stowmarket, for two-day event




It’s weird, it’s wonderful and it attracted thousands of visitors to Haughley, near Stowmarket, over the sunny weekend.

Weird and Wonderful Wood celebrated 30 years at Haughley Park on Saturday and yesterday.

The annual celebration of all things wood work and wood worker-related boasted more than 130 stalls and demonstrations promoting wood and its traditional uses, free children’s workshops, walkabout entertainment, shows, street theatre, music and more.

Visitors might have spotted Queen Elizabeth I, a giant sloth and her baby, stiltwalkers, bubble bicyle and Zelda the giant tortoise making their way around the site.

Meanwhile, youngsters could propel the mechanical dragon, enjoy circus workshops, make fairy gardens, get dreative with clay, hula hoop, try their hand at aerial silks, drumming and climb the ‘Monkey Do’ in the trees.

Street food, ice creams and freshly-squeezed lemon juice attracted queues, while crafts and stalls were also popular.

Music on the stage included the Old Time Sailors, The Floozies, and Mark Chadwick of The Levellers.

A new addition this year was the fairy garden picnic area. including a soft play area and more workshops.
