Flint Hall Events in Creeting St Peter, near Stowmarket, seeks approval to host ceremonies in historic barn
A popular events and glamping site has applied to change its use to host wedding ceremonies in a 19th-century barn.
Flint Hall Events, launched last year in Creeting St Peter, near Stowmarket, has been hosting a range of events from weddings, parties and glamping to markets, festivals, fitness classes and fund-raisers for charity.
While the venue has welcomed plenty of celebrations, it has been unable to hold legal marriage ceremonies in its historic barn as it is currently registered as a ‘domestic dwelling’.
However, that could soon change as the events company has applied to Mid Suffolk District Council to reclassify the barn as a ‘Sui Generis’ building — meaning the business can apply for a wedding licence.
A heritage statement submitted with the application supports the proposed change of use for the barn at Flint Hall, stating it would cause no harm to heritage assets or the former farmstead setting.
While Flint Hall itself is not a listed building, the barn dates back to 1838 as shown on a historic tithe map.
Mid Suffolk’s planning authority is due to consider the plans on Tuesday, April 29.
