King George V Playing Field in Haughley reopens after clean-up

A village park which was shut for a clean-up after travellers moved onto the site has reopened.

The travellers left the Haughley King George V Playing Field in the early hours of Thursday morning having pitched up on the site since Monday, July 29.

The parish council had subsequently closed the park due to contamination and a risk to health and safety.

A specialist decontamination team was contracted to clean-up the site.

In a statement the council has thanked residents for their patience.

It said: “The Haughley Parish Council, the playing field committee and the football club are thrilled to give freedom of the site back to the public.

“The gates remain chained to restrict vehicle movement onto the fields.

“This is a short-term immediate response and all considerations and suggestions will be looked at for longer term security of the site in due course.”
