Stowmarket tree-planting campaign needs volunteers for weekend hedgerow restoration

A climate charity is hosting a weekend of tree-planting at a farm in Suffolk.

On Saturday, November 26 and Sunday, November 27, the climate charity Possible is launching a weekend of hedgerow restoration at Fairoaks Farm in Finningham Road, Stowmarket.

Last year, the Hedge Fund project saw more than 20,000 trees planted across the country and the start of new 4km hedgerows.

Tree-planting campaigner Elliot McDevitt said: “Tree-planting is always an enjoyable and rewarding experience for Possible and all of our volunteers.

“We're looking forward to this being a particularly successful session and we can't wait to work with local residents.

“Hedgerow regeneration will undoubtedly be a valuable tool as the UK looks to reduce its carbon emissions and restore its native wildlife.

“By working with the Nature Friendly Farming Network we hope we can help those in the agricultural sector who want to make a change do so and connect communities from all walks of life to the benefit of both the climate and nature.”

The installation of hedgerows is a step towards a more biodiverse and climate friendly solution in the world of farming across the UK’s landscapes.

The fences offer practical utility to farmers, habitat for threatened wildlife and the ability to lock up 500,000 tonnes of carbon.

Possible has been working with communities to deliver tree-planting events since 2018 and to sign up for the weekend’s event, you can follow this link to apply.
