Great Finborough gardens open in aid of St Andrew’s Church

Gardens across Great Finborough, near Stowmarket, opened their gates for a highlight in the village’s annual calendar.

Flora and fauna usually hidden behind walls and fences was showcased to visitors, with the open gardens including traditional English cottage plots to modern horticultural havens.

With more than a dozen gardens open, visitors were able to enjoy a leisurely afternoon filled with garden inspiration, homemade teas and cakes and ‘warm Suffolk hospitality’, according to organisers.

Cath Walker, one of the event organisers, said: “It was a fantastic event with 15 gardens open and the village wildflower meadow and woodland.

“We had 124 visitors and raised £700 for St Andrew’s Church, in Great Finborough.

“Many villagers commented on the friendliness of the village and the great conversations they had with those who opened their gardens. The refreshments and huge variety of delicious cakes were also praised.

“The perfect weather made for a very enjoyable afternoon for all who visited.

"We also had a barbecue on the Saturday night for all the garden openers and volunteer helpers, so that the garden club could thank them for all the time they kindly put in for us."
