Old Newton CE Primary School, near Stowmarket, boasts a new classroom building and will also have a new library
A primary school is enhancing its learning environment with a new standalone classroom that boasts a sustainable design.
Year 5 and 6 pupils at Old Newton CE Primary School, in Old Newton, near Stowmarket, will move to the new building, which has been designed by the company IF_DO.
The architect said the building was ‘an exemplar’ in climate-positive design: it uses prefabricated wall and roof cassettes, is energy efficient and is reusable.
Headteacher Jo Lockyear said: “We are delighted that our new classroom is nearing completion. This exciting project has been instrumental in the school's ongoing efforts to enhance the learning environment for its community.
“The new classroom is set to be operational by the end of the spring term, offering a modern and well-equipped space for the school's eldest pupils.
“The classroom has been designed with sustainability at the forefront, contains no plastic in its construction and includes an innovative design of wall cassettes allowing the classroom to be breathable providing a healthier air quality for those inhabiting it.”
Meanwhile, a new library is being created for pupils of the school thanks to a donation from a former volunteer.
“This dedicated space will allow the school to expand its collection of books and provide a comfortable, inspiring environment for pupils to explore the joys of reading,” said Mrs Lockyear.
The school’s current Year 3 and 4 pupils will move to a larger classroom and the room they are in currently will then become the library.
Mrs Lockyear added: “With the completion of the new classroom and the establishment of the library, the school is poised to further enhance its ability to support the academic and personal growth of its young learners.
“The school's governing body and leadership team have been instrumental in these developments, ensuring that the needs of the pupils remain at the forefront of their priorities.
“As the school continues to evolve, it looks forward to providing its community with even more opportunities for learning, discovery, and personal development.”
Old Newton CE Primary School recently celebrated the outcome of an Ofsted inspection, which found it to be good in all areas.
