Pupils at St Gregory Primary School, Sudbury, set for TV stardom after a surprise visit by BBC’s Gladiators for Comic Relief
Children at a primary school are set for TV stardom tonight after a surprise visit by The Gladiators.
The pupils at St Gregory Primary School, Sudbury, met the TV stars earlier this month during a fundraising day.
The school had arranged its own its own ‘non-contact’ Gladiators-style event involving teachers and pupils to raise money for Comic Relief.
The event however turned into a day ‘they will never forget’, when seven Gladiators from the hit BBC contest arrived to take part, too.
Headteacher, Daniel Woodrow, said: “I wrote to the BBC to ask if a Gladiator would like to come along to referee for the contests.
“They loved the idea and instead sent seven, on condition we kept it secret from the children and parents.
“They were here all day and competed in more than fifteen events, including track and field and individual challenges.
“People will have to watch tonight to find out how they got on.
“But let’s just say the children did very well and I’m sure it’s a day they will never forget.”
Events for the day included dodge balls, water pistols, Jenga, and Uno, amongst others.
Gladiators Bionic, Diamond, Nitro and Electro were among those who took part in the games with the children.
“I brought them in during assembly and there was great excitement,” added Mr Woodrow.
“It was the same when the parents met them, later on, too.”
You can see how the children got on against the Gladiators at 7.30pm tonight during the BBC’s Comic Relief show.
Sir Lenny Henry will host the show for the final time after almost 40 years.
