Police close Sudbury Road, Long Melford, as four Suffolk fire crews called to blaze

Seven fire crews are tackling a blaze in a Suffolk village which started in a HGV trailer.

The fire service were called to Sudbury Road in Long Melford, at 9.17 am.

Police have closed the road as firefighters from Sudbury, Long Melford, Newmarket, Bury St Edmunds and Princes Street work to put out the fire.

A spokesman for the fire service said the blaze had started in a HGV trailer and scrap motor vehicles were ‘fully alight’.

He said that firefighters were making good progress and had been using an aerial platform to extinguish the fire from above.

At 2pm five crews remained at the scene.

A stop was called by the fire service at 4.54pm.
