Armed police descend on Great Cornard Poplar Road following reports of man carrying knife

Armed police descended on a Suffolk street last night after receiving reports that a man was carrying a knife.

Officers were called to Poplar Road in Great Cornard, near Sudbury, at around 8.20pm to investigate the sighting.

However, a Suffolk Constabulary spokesperson has confirmed this afternoon there was no trace of the man.

They said: "“Police were called at 8.20pm on Monday evening to reports of a man in the vicinity of Applegate Mews in Great Cornard, who was believed to be carrying a large knife under his jacket.

“Officers – including armed police units – were sent to investigate, but following a search of the area the man was not located.

“Anyone else who believes they may have information in connection with this sighting is asked to contact Sudbury Neighbourhood Response Team on 101.”

Eyewitness photographs show multiple armed police officers on the street close to the bus stop.
