A farm shop cafe has had two of its very different breakfast offerings nominated for national awards.

Hollow Trees Farm Shop’s traditional English breakfast and its healthier crunchy granola option have been put forward in the upcoming Best Breakfast Awards.

The awards are part of national Breakfast Week, which runs from January 25 to 31.

The winning dishes will be those that receive the most public votes, with staff at Hollow Trees calling on their loyal customers to help them in their bid for glory by voting online.

Charlie Ruddock, who works at the Semer business, said: “Our English breakfast features the best attributes of Hollow Trees Farm and the local area.

“They are a firm favourite with regular customers and staff on their day off, too.

“In the last year, our chefs have produced more than 2,000 English breakfasts. This shows just how popular the dish is.”

Karen Levy, from the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board, which organises the event, said: “The Best Breakfast Awards highlight the growing out-of-home market for breakfast.

“We are really pleased that Hollow Trees Farm Shop is in the running and hope that its customers get behind it and show their support by voting.”

The winners will be announced during Breakfast Week, with awards for the best hot and best cold breakfast.

TV chef Phil Vickery, who is supporting the campaign, will also be presenting a special judges’ award for the most unique or innovative breakfast.

Hollow Trees is hoping its blend of produce from the farm and local suppliers will prove a winning recipe.

The cafe’s full English breakfast features sausages and bacon sourced from the farm, a locally-supplied free range egg, hash brown, grilled tomato, mushrooms and toast.

Its cold option breakfast is the crunchy granola, which is supplied by Crush Foods of Norfolk, and is made using local borage honey and apple juice, served with yoghurt made with milk supplied by local dairies.

You can vote online at www.shakeupyourwakeup.com/breakfastawards or you can complete a voting form at Hollow Trees Farm Shop. Voting closes on Sunday, January 18.

Everyone that votes will be entered into a prize draw to win either a spa day or a supercar experience.
