Bomb squad team called after magnet fisherman discovers railway track explosives in Long Melford near Sudbury

A bomb squad team was called to a Suffolk village and a road was closed after a couple of railway track explosives were found.

The B1064 in Long Melford near Sudbury had to be closed yesterday, after a visiting magnet fisherman pulled a couple of railway track explosives out of a river outside Long Melford Country Park.

A spokesperson for Sudbury and Haverhill Police said that as the area still has disused railway status so Network Rail would have dealt with the issue but as they are on strike Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) took the devices away instead.

The fisherman also caught a knife, some shotgun cartridges and a BB gun.
