Brownies urge new recruits

Members of the second Glemsford Brownies have urged girls in the area to join their group after the number of attendees started to dramatically dwindle.

With help from assistant guider Linda Pease, the girls listed their favourite things about joining Brownies, which included making friends, learning new skills and going on holidays.

Mrs Pease, of The Street, Little Waldingfield, has been involved with the institution for the last 32 years.

She said the group wanted to encourage other girls in the district to join their local Brownie pack.

“We have always had a reasonable size pack, but lately the numbers have dropped,” she said.

“We give girls a voice so that they can make decisions for themselves.

“They learn life skills, like first aid and cooking, as well as social skills.”

Mrs Pease said there was now more competition for clubs available to youngsters, but said she felt Brownies remained a good value-for-money pastime.

This year, the Glemsford pack has been involved with other village groups and events, including the Remembrance day parade.
