A 22-year-old butcher has been short-listed for a prestigious industry award.

Mia Tamburrini, owner and butcher at Raise The Steaks, Sudbury, has been short-listed for the Craft Butchery Award at The Women In Meat Industry Awards 2024.

The awards are run by the publishers of Meat Management and recognise the important contributions women make across the meat industry.

Mia, of Steeple Bumpstead, said: “It’s an honour to be nominated for the craft butchery category. It is my third year of being short-listed and hopefully my third year as a finalist.

“I would be so happy if I won, but the people you get to network and socialise with at these events is enough of a privilege to take away with you.

“I often find myself filled with so many new ideas and more drive to push the business to new strengths.”

Mia entered the industry in 2019 before opening her own unit in the town.

Mia has previously won several other industry awards, including Best Meat Apprentice Showing Management Potential 2022 and ChampionMeat Apprentice 2022.

She said: “More women are being recognised in the industry and it’s really great to see.

“I feel the stigmatism around women in the trade has changed a lot over the years. I’ve been butchering for five years and have already seen a huge change for the better.”

The Women In Meat Industry Awards will be held in November.

Mia will also soon be opening an online shop for her business to offer deliveries.
