A man was arrested when officers stumbled upon a cannabis factory in Hadleigh at the weekend.

Up to 1,000 plants of the class B drug were found at an industrial unit in Crockatt Road on the Lady Lane Industrial Estate in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police found the factory after reports of suspicious activity at around 3am.

A damaged door led officers to the site, which included electrical hydroponic equipment used to help the plants grow.

A 25-year-old man from Barking was found hiding in the building and has been arrested on suspicion of burglary.

He has been released on bail to return to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre on May 26.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk Police said: “We would appeal for anyone who saw anything suspicious in relation to the industrial unit, or has information about the cannabis which was found, to contact officers on 101.

“Alternatively they can telephone Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
