A Sudbury care home has raised more than £2,000 to buy a revolutionary piece of equipment to improve the well-being of dementia patients.

Red House Residential Home in Meadow Lane is set to buy a RemPod after a series of fundraising events.

A RemPod is a pop-up reminiscence room designed to create a therapeutic and dementia-friendly environment to improve mental well-being.

Favourites include an authentic 1950s living room, old style shops and a vintage pub.

Red House manager Carol Vaughan said the equipment helps patients remember good memories which can improve their overall health and happiness.

“People with dementia often have poor short-term memories – to the extent that they may not even recognise a family member,” she said.

“They can, however, often recall times, sights and sounds from a bygone era and the RemPods have been somewhat revolutionary in the treatment of dementia.

“We are delighted to finally be able to purchase such an important piece of equipment, which will make life so much better for many of our residents.

“We are so very grateful to all those who supported us in this fundraising initiative.”

The £2,238 needed to purchase the RemPod was raised through a number of events.

The Brewery Tap in Sudbury also donated more than £500 from its annual beer festival.
