Clap for Carers initiative inspires Long Melford girl's poem in honour of NHS workers fighting coronavirus
A 10-year-old girl from Long Melford has composed her own poem to express her gratitude to front-line medical workers tackling the coronavirus outbreak.
Every Thursday, Lily Chapman joins her neighbours in Hall Street to take part in the nationwide Clap for Carers to thank NHS staff for their efforts in helping to treat patients with Covid-19.
Having developed a sense of pride in taking part, Lily was inspired to focus a recent school project on creating a poem to reflect the weekly tribute.
“She thinks it’s a really nice thing to do and always enjoys seeing people at their doorsteps,” said Lily’s mother, Hayley Thorpe. “She knows all the doctors and nurses are doing their best to help.”
Miss Thorpe said the weekly tribute would remain a lasting memory for her daughter, who attends Langham Primary School in Colchester with four-year-old sister, Emily.
