Community effort sees village store open following £50,000 investment

Residents in Gosfield are celebrating the launch of a new village shop, completely paid for and run by the community.

The new store sits in the village’s playing fields car park and will be run by a group of volunteers.

Costing £50,000, the store was the brainchild of Gosfield Parish Council clerk Joanne Beavis after the previous village store closed in January last year.

The new premises – a portable building that arrived by truck on January 22 – will operate as a convenience store, while also serving teas and coffees.

Parish councillor Jamie Davey said: “It’s brilliant. Everybody lamented the loss of the last village shop.

“Some of the residents really rely on being able to pop out for a pint of milk.”
