Peaceful demonstration planned in Glemsford in solidarity with Black Lives Matter protests in response to death of African-American man George Floyd

A resident from Glemsford is staging a peaceful protest to express her solidarity with demonstrators, following the death of a black African American man in the United States.

George Floyd suffered a cardiac arrest and died after being restrained by a Minneapolis police officer last week.

The 46-year-old repeatedly complained that he could not breathe, before losing consciousness and later dying.

The incident, which was captured by video footage, has sparked widespread mass protests across the United States and in other countries.

Keen to pledge her support with demonstrators, Clare McGlasham, from Glemsford, is encouraging people to join her in a peaceful protest on the green opposite Wong Cherry Tree Chinese restaurant on Saturday at midday.

ā€œIā€™m asking you wonderful people of Glemsford to stand with me,ā€ she said, adding that social distancing measures would be put in place during the event.
