A devastating ram raid punched a hole in the wall of a Long Melford newsagents in the early hours of this morning, as thieves made off with a cash machine.

Suffolk Police received calls at about 3am today, following reports that a digger had smashed into McColl’s in Hall Street.

Upon arrival at the scene, a Telehandler was found abandoned outside the shop, having been used to remove the ATM from the wall.

The offenders, described as five men with their faces covered and wearing dark-coloured clothing, then loaded the cash machine onto a black Nissan Navara, before driving off in the direction of Sudbury, with what is believed to be a blue Audi saloon following closely behind.

An investigation into the ram raid is now ongoing, and police would like to hear from anybody who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the area.

If you can help, contact West Suffolk CID on 101, quoting the incident reference number 37/59252/18.
