Fire in flats above Weavers Tap pub in Sudbury believed to have been started deliberately

A fire at a block of flats in Sudbury which left six people needing hospital treatment is being treated as arson, police have confirmed today.

Emergency services were called to reports of a fire in the stairwell of the flats in East Street, above the Weavers Tap pub, at about 8am yesterday.

Six residents - including two children - from the building were evacuated and taken to hospital to be checked over for the effects of smoke inhalation.

It is believed that the fire, which was extinguished at around 8.30am, was started deliberately in the stairwell at some point overnight.
