Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service seeks new recruits after recognising Sudbury business Siemans Healthineers for support of on-call firefighters

A fresh call for new on-call firefighters in Suffolk has been sounded, after a Sudbury business earned recognition for its support of the fire service.

Sudbury Fire Station watch manager Paul Carrington recently presented the Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service Employer Recognition Award to Linda Cummings, managing director of Siemans Healthineers.

The accolade paid tribute to Siemens for allowing two members of staff, Nicola Edge and Steven Bulmer – who both work as on-call firefighters in Sudbury – to attend emergency incidents, alongside their employment at the company.

Martyn Hazelwood, recruitment and retention manager at Suffolk Fire and Rescue, said: “Without the support from employers like Siemans, Suffolk Fire Service would be unable to provide the availability of fire appliance across the county.

“Through succession planning, we are currently recruiting on-call firefighters at almost all of our 35 fire stations across Suffolk.”
