Full-fibre broadband project for 4,000 residents and businesses in Long Melford, Cavendish and Glemsford nears completion

Improved broadband connections for around 4,000 residents and businesses in villages around Sudbury are in the works.

Telecoms company Gigaclear confirmed that work on new full fibre connections serving Long Melford, Cavendish and Glemsford are due to be completed in November.

The project began in early 2023, when engineers began extending its network from Ridgewell using fibre optic cables.

Since then, they have been going street-to-street, either digging new trenches or using existing infrastructure, to reach each property.

Senior project manager Ben Robertson said they are working hard to ensure rural communities can access the same broadband speed and reliability as urban areas.

“Taking our full fibre to rural communities that would otherwise have copper or an inferior part fibre broadband connection fundamentally changes them for the better,” he added.

“It creates choice for the people in those communities about how they work and how they live their lives.”
