AFC Sudbury gains permission for new 3G pitch

A new artificial playing field will soon be introduced at a town football club after planning approval was secured.

AFC Sudbury received formal permission from Babergh District Council last week to replace an existing grass pitch at Brundon Lane with a new 3G surface.

The full-size pitch will be surrounded by 15-metre-high floodlights and 4.5-metre fencing, plus a hard-standing area.

Babergh planning officer Elizabeth Flood said the plans would support the club’s future, including its academy education programme, and that concerns around light and noise had been suitably addressed.

“The development will have significant community benefits, allowing greater use of the second pitch at AFC Sudbury, which will support the long-term viability of an important community organisation,” her report read.

“While there will be a loss of a grass football pitch, the site is within the developed area of the football club, and the landscape impact will be lessened.”
