Former Olympian Julie Bradbury taught youngsters key badminton skills during a trip to Wells Hall Primary School in Great Cornard this week.

Students from Years 3 to 6 took part in a series of interactive sessions led by the Great Britain Commonwealth medal holder.

“They really enjoyed it,” said deputy headteacher Koulla Anslow. “It was really nice for them to play a sport that they may not experience in lessons at primary school level.

Mrs Anslow highlighted the importance of the pupils gaining insight from a female sports figure.

“They were really impressed that Julie Bradbury had represented our county,” she said, adding that the sessions enabled pupils to grasp the techniques of the sport.

“They all had a go playing badminton – they were building on skills that they have learnt in other areas of sport,” said Mrs Anslow.

The school will be hosting a week of sporting activities next month as part of a scheme to promote exercise and reduce childhood obesity.
