Great Cornard, The Brook in Bures Road wins CAMRA (West Suffolk and Borders) summer pub of the year award

A landlord is celebrating after his pub was handed a seasonal pub of the year award.

Simon Heard, who runs The Brook in Bures Road, Great Cornard, near Sudbury, picked up the award last Thursday.

Representatives from the West Suffolk and Borders branch of CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) popped in to break the news that The Brook had won the award for summer 2024.

“We won a pub of the month title a couple of years ago for best real ales, but I think this one tops that,” said Simon.

“It’s been a long journey since I took over 10 years ago, but we hope we have really put the pub back in the community. It’s great to be recognised.”

Simon took over the pub 10 years ago when there were plans to close it down.

But he and bar manager Kay Evans have built up trade as well as winning a strong reputation for pub sports teams.

The pub is planning its annual beer festival for later in the year.
