Lavenham Library confirms introduction of extended opening hours at start of 2020

Lavenham Library is set to extend its opening hours beginning in the new year, following a public consultation.

Under the changes, the library in Church Street will open on Mondays, between 10am and 1pm, and increase its current hours on Fridays, opening from 10am to 1pm and from 2pm to 5pm.

It will have a shorter opening period on Saturdays, from 10am to 2pm, and close earlier on Sundays, while the current timetable for Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays will remain the same.

The changes will result in a total increase in opening hours per week, at no cost to Suffolk Libraries, due to small changes to staffing patterns.

Approved by the Suffolk Libraries board and Suffolk County Council, the new schedule will take effect from January 1, 2020, with new signage to reflect these changes installed in due course.

Library manager Elise Hardy said: “We are very pleased that we have been able to increase Lavenham Library’s opening hours as part of this change.

“It enables us to extend our service offer on Mondays and Fridays and brings our opening times in line with other activities within Lavenham Village Hall.

“We have listened to our customers and will be opening at times that suit them, their families and their lifestyles.”

The new hours will mean the local Lego Club will now move from Sundays to Saturdays, taking place from 11am to 2pm.
