Lavenham beauty salon owners Vicki Strudwick and Mandy Painting are celebrating after being recognised by retail magnate and entrepreneur Theo Paphitis.

Last week, they met the famous businessman at an annual event in Birmingham, where they received a winners certificate for The Beauty Gallery in High Street, Lavenham.

The mother and daughter business got a major marketing and social media boost after the former star of the television series Dragon’s Den gave it a plug.

The salon’s Twitter account was retweeted by Theo to his 500,000 followers, which resulted in the business receiving a significant spike in activity across its website and social media platforms.

After salon manager Vicki tweeted to Theo during his Small Business Sunday (#SBS) competition, she and Mandy were chosen to attend the winners’ final.

She said: “After winning his weekly Small Business Sunday Twitter competition, we are proud to be among just one per cent of businesses who have been chosen and retweeted by Theo.

“It’s exciting and inspiring to have the support of such a successful businessman.

“It was a fantastic opportunity to meet Theo in person and network with other small businesses.

“We have come away from the event with a renewed love of our business and the desire to see it grow.”

Mandy, who started the business 18 years ago, said: “Being able to listen to Theo Paphitis in person was really inspirational.

“I can’t quite believe that our little rural salon has come so far.”

Vicki explained that the #SBS weekly Twitter competition was conceived eight years ago.

“Since beginning #SBS in October 2010, more than 350,000 businesses have tweeted the retail entrepreneur in the hopes of winning,” she said.

“Only one per cent have been successful, including The Beauty Gallery.”

Small business champion Theo Paphitis said: “We are thrilled to welcome new #SBS winners every week and highlight just how important it is to support our small businesses here in the UK.

“My vision is that who has ever won an #SBS retweet from me becomes part of a friendly club; like-minded individuals who can share successes and learnings.”

The Beauty Gallery moved into new premises in the High Street last year and expanded its business to offer a range of beauty treatments.
