Arrest made after man pulled gun on Sudbury bookmakers and woman in two separate incidents

Police have made an arrest after a man armed with firearm attempted to rob a Sudbury bookmakers and threatened a member of the public.

The first of the two incidents - which are being linked by police - was at 3.15pm today.

A man walked into the bookmakers in Borehamgate.

He produced a firearm, demanded money and then left the scene.

In a separate incident in King Street, Sudbury, a man approached a woman requesting a cigarette.

When she refused, the suspect threatened her with what she described as a handgun.

No one was harmed and no money was taken.

A man in his 30s has since been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery.

He has been taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning, where he remains.
