A Sudbury museum has been awarded £275,000 from a national grant to help secure its future.

Gainsborough’s House is one of four museums in Suffolk to receive a slice of the £1.3million investment from the Arts Council’s museums resilience fund.

The grant will support the museum and art gallery’s “building firm foundations” project, which focuses on the infrastructure and development of the attraction, and all levels of funding.

It will enable Gainsborough’s House to make significant strides in achieving a more sustainable future through developing its governance, staffing and income generation, as well as establishing a financially-supportive network.

Hedley Swain, South East area director for the Arts Council, said she was pleased to be able to support some of the many museums across Suffolk.

He added: “Through a wide variety of programmes and activities, from audience and organisational development through to maximising income generation, each will work towards making their organisations more resilient.”
