Music section of arts festival leaves judges astounded

The music section of Sudbury’s Festival of Performing Arts was described as a “resounding success” by chairman Jan Osborne.

Adjudicators were full of praise for the festival and the standard of performers from Sudbury and beyond.

Graeme Humphrey, who adjudicated the first part of the music section, said he now understood why so many performers compete in the annual festival.

Many of the performers were awarded a distinction, with Nicholas Cooper and Rosalind Lavington received outstanding grades for their performances.

Mrs Osborne praised the high standard of all the competitors.

She said: “Music can be extremely emotional and can make you both smile and cry and I have experienced both of these emotions throughout this week.

“Many thanks must go to the teachers and parents for their support and dedication. I always enjoy the performances and find it very encouraging to see so many young people involved in performing arts.

“A big thankyou must also go to our wonderful team of volunteers, without whom the festival would not take place.”

The music section came to a spectacular close in a packed Delphi Social Club with music from Hot Air, Sudbury Tenon, Stagecoach Sudbury and the Bury Community Choir.

The Rose Bowl, which is awarded by the adjudicator to the best musical group performance from the final afternoon session, went to the Bury Community Choir.

The finale concert at Sudbury Ormiston Academy on Sunday, March 22, will showcase the very best performances from all the disciplines.
