Old horseshoes inspire launch of new metalwork business in Gestingthorpe
When Billy Moulton-Day made reindeer ornaments out of old horseshoes last Christmas, little did he realise it would be the start of a new business.
Billy, 28, from Gestingthorpe, said the sculptures he welded out of discarded horseshoes flew out of the door when he placed them online.
He has been busy making garden sculptures and household items to order ever since.
It gave him the impetus he needed to start his own business, called Rusty Creations UK.
“I’ve always been interested in using metal to make things and I signed up for an evening class in welding and metal fabrication last September, which I am still continuing,” said Billy, a former brick-maker.
“A friend of mine is a farrier and has lots of old horseshoes laying around, so I thought I’d try making something out of them.
“It’s just snowballed from there. I set up my business on Facebook and now I’m really busy with orders.”
Billy’s love for metal comes from his grandfather, who was an engineer.
His creations include shoe racks, wine racks and garden sculptures, including a large fish and a Suffolk Punch.
“Whatever people want, I will try to make it. I love being creative,” added Billy, who is also a keen cricketer.
