Sudbury iPhone Repairs preparing for transition to new retail outlet in town as demand rises during lockdown
A technology repair specialist based in Sudbury says the demand for tablets during lockdown has made business as busy as ever, as it prepares to relocate to a new retail outlet in town.
Sudbury iPhone Repairs picked up the keys this week for its shop in North Street, where it is targeting an opening date of June 1.
Previously operating from a mobile unit, the company set up a permanent home at an office in Station Road in the summer, remaining open throughout the lockdown periods as an essential business.
Chris Dixon, who took over the business from the previous owner two-and-a-half years ago, said the move to an office had been a test to see if it could work effectively from a permanent site, and he now wanted to make the transition into retail.
He indicated that, although the shop will keep the Sudbury iPhone Repairs name for the first six months, he intends to undergo a rebranding exercise after that, to show they are not limited to Apple products.
“We were completely mobile, but I wanted to take the business down a different road,” Mr Dixon told the Free Press. “I think, if anything, we’ve got busier.
“We have been fortunate that we’ve been able to stay open as an essential business. When it comes to schooling at home and kids having to do their learning on iPads, if something breaks, it has to be fixed.
“We’ve been very busy, specifically with iPad repairs, and with elderly people – it’s often their only source of contact to the outside world.
“I want to expand the business. We will be undergoing a name change, because Sudbury is location specific and iPhone is brand specific, so we may be missing out.
“Providing it goes well in Sudbury, I would like to open another branch in Colchester as well.”
Sudbury iPhone Repairs will continue to operate from its current base in Station Road, until the move to the shop in North Street. The business can repair all other makes of phones and tablets.
