PICTURES: Thousands flock to 'quintessentially British' Hadleigh Show

Not to be outdone by the royal wedding at, the 179th Hadleigh Show attracted enormous crowds for a quintessentially British event.

Approximately 14,000 visitors flocked to Holbecks Park throughout the day on Saturday, underneath the brilliant sunshine and warm weather, to enjoy the town’s signature annual celebration.

The headline entertainment this year included Broke FMX, which wowed the crowds with their freestyle motocross displays and tricks, and Titan the Robot, a first-time attraction that proved popular with visitors as it toured the show grounds.

The main ring also hosted the Sheep Show, Little Nippers Terrier Racing and the Young Farmers Tug-o-War.

Elsewhere, more than 160 trade stands showcased their businesses, while there were also educational and cookery demonstrations and a flower show themed around the First World War.

Cathey Leney, Hadleigh Show secretary, described it as a “fabulous event”, adding it demonstrated the show’s continuing appeal.

“The crowds came out in force as usual,” she said. “We went quintessentially British and everything was decked out in red, white and blue.”

“I think a huge part is the location. Holbecks Park is such a beautiful place to hold the event. There’s something for everyone in the family.”
