Dough & Co pizza chain submits plans to convert former Winch & Blatch clothing store in Sudbury into new restaurant

A former clothing shop in the heart of Sudbury could be converted into a pizza restaurant, if new proposals are approved.

Dough & Co has submitted a change-of-use planning application, seeking permission to transform the former Winch & Blatch department store in King Street, which has been vacant since trading ceased at the site in December.

The pizza chain currently operates six locations, including one in North Street, Sudbury, and another in High Street, Halstead, and says the proposed location would create 12 jobs and cater to 60 covers.

Sudbury Town Council and the Sudbury Society have both recommended the application for approval, with the latter welcoming a new use for the empty retail unit.

On Babergh District Council’s planning portal, however, a pair of objections have been lodged by staff at Cafe Viva Pizzeria, who cite concerns that having another pizza restaurant in such close proximity could have adverse implications for jobs in the area.

The application can be viewed by clicking here and using the reference code DC/20/05919.
