Haverhill charity match Kick for Kindness organised by Champions of Change Football to raise funds for The Sunflower SEND Hub and the Bobby Copping Foundation
An 11-a-side fund-raising football match is being staged in Haverhill in aid of two charities that are, said its organiser, “close to my heart”.
Called Kick of Kindness Charity Match, it will start at 10.45am at The New Croft on Sunday, July 6 and has been organised by Haverhill-raised Scott Moore, the founder of Champions of Change Football who now lives in Bures, near Sudbury.
The match will see a CB9 Champs XI compete against a Rest of Champs XI.
Champions of Change, which Scott founded in February, organises and provides the equipment and for small-sided weekly football matches at The New Croft on every Wednesday at 8pm (these sessions are run for Scott by Tommy Parker) and AFC Sudbury’s ground (every Thursday at 8.30pm). There are also weekly games played in Colchester.
Profits from the day will be shared between mental health charity, the Bobby Copping Foundation and the Haverhill-based, Sunflower SEND Hub, which supports children with special educational needs and disabilities and their families.
The latter was co-created by Scott’s cousin, Tina Scott.
Scott, who spent five years being a carer for autistic children, said: “The two good causes we are doing it for are two that are close to my heart.”
He added: “We’ve got 32 players, which is 16 each side. If all of them bring their family that’s about 90 people, I would say.
“That’s without the interest of their friends or extended family and the general public.
“As long as we raise a good amount to donate and everyone has a good day, it’s a success. Anything on top of that is the cherry on the cake.
“I am quite excited. Obviously being the first one that I have organised I’m not expecting it to be like Glastonbury, or something like that, but every single person involved is just beaming with excitement.”
The day includes food and drink, from 11.30am to 3.30pm, a bar that opens from 10.30am to 4pm, bouncy castle, raffle and half-time (11.30am) children’s penalty shoot out.
