First ever Colour Run at Acton Primary School, near Sudbury, raises almost £5,000

A special afternoon of colours and community spirit has helped boost a Suffolk school’s finances by almost £5,000.

Acton Primary School announced this week the final fund-raising total for its first ever sponsored Colour Run, which took place last month.

Organisers at the Friends of Acton School (FOAS) lauded the response from the whole community, and are hopeful the success will enable the event to become an annual fixture.

On the day, pupils ran an obstacle course on their playing field, while teaching staff and volunteers used paint powder and super soakers to make them as colourful as possible.

Anna Salisbury, on behalf of FOAS, said: “The course was peppered with obstacles, adding an extra layer of fun and challenge for the pupils, who tackled the event with huge enthusiasm and plenty of smiles.

“The Colour Run marks an exciting addition to the school’s calendar, with hopes that it will become a much-loved annual tradition.”

The money raised by the participating children totalled £4,882, organisers confirmed on Monday.

Thanks to the support of the event’s sponsors, Nero Piling and Ground Engineering, all of these funds will go directly back into the school, to help pay for additional future activities.

Jonathan Gray, headteacher at Acton Primary School, added: “The FOAS Colour Run was, without doubt, one of the most joyful events I’ve ever had the pleasure of being part of in my teaching career.

“Seeing the children run, laugh, and get absolutely covered in colour was brilliant and I think it’s fair to say the adults had just as much fun as the pupils.

“Huge thanks to the Friends of Acton School for organising such a memorable day, and to everyone who has donated so generously.

“The money raised will make a real difference to the experiences we’re able to offer our children, and we’re absolutely thrilled with the total raised.”
