Great Cornard’s Maldon Grey pub seeks nominations for Young Community Hero Award

Nominations of young people, who have gone above and beyond for their community, are wanted by a Great Cornard pub, as part of their new awards scheme.

The Maldon Grey in Cats Lane has launched the 2024 Young Community Hero Award, open to young people aged between five and 16 years old.

People are invited to nominate deserving young people from the area, such as young carers, charity fundraisers or inspirational young people, who have dealt with hardship and difficulties in their lives.

After the deadline on November 14, a panel of judges will assess the nominees, with the eventual winner being notified on November 21.

In addition to receiving various prizes, including a trophy and a VIP dinner, their picture will also be displayed on the pub’s ‘wall of fame’, to be joined by future award winners in years to come.

Organiser Jay Evans, joint landlord at The Maldon Grey, said: “The Maldon Grey has become a community hub.

“We have welcomed more families than ever this year, from all over Sudbury and the surrounding villages.

“I have personally been surprised by some of the stories about children in the area, selflessly working to help others, and I wanted to find a way to celebrate them. That’s when I had the idea of the award.”

The chosen Young Community Hero and their family will also be invited to do the honours at the pub’s Christmas lights switch-on party on November 30, starting at 6pm.
