School’s charity challenge raises more than £2,600 for Comic Relief

A Sudbury primary school has raised more than £2,600 for Comic Relief after pupils embarked on 27 ways to make the world a better place.

The initiative was inspired by comedian Mark Watson’s marathon 27-hour stand-up show to celebrate Comic Relief’s 27th anniversary.

A group of Year 6 pupils travelled to London to take part in the show.

They presented the school’s grand total and showed a video of all their efforts to make the world a better place.

“The school’s contribution was one of the undoubted high spots of the show,” said Mr Watson.

“The audience loved the approach the kids had taken and were hugely impressed by their fundraising, too.”

Pupils of all age groups took part in a whole host of charitable ideas, from litter picking to planting more trees and caring for the elderly.

Headteacher Daniel Woodrow said the school has created long-lasting links with the community.

He said: “We are incredibly proud of the children for the kind, caring and fun ideas that they came up with to make the world a better place.”
