Speech coach aims to dispel dig-day nerves
A Sudbury-based trainer and coach has set up a new group to help people overcome their fear of public speaking.
Whether it be readying themselves for a best man speech, a big business presentation or a job interview, most people have all felt the pressure of speaking in front of an audience.
“Many people find even the prospect of speaking in public terrifying and avoid it,” said Paul Johnstone, who has set up Sudbury Speakers Club.
“It has been said that public speaking is our number one fear. The truth is that you can overcome your fear of public speaking – all it takes is a little guidance, plenty of support and a bit of effort.
“The new Sudbury Speakers Club will really help you to gain confidence and learn the techniques to help you to perform better in all areas of public communication, whether work or social.”
The new club will be part of the countrywide not-for-profit organisation the Association of Speakers Clubs.
Mr Johnston, who lives in Cornard Road, Sudbury, works as a business consultant, speaker mentor and trainer.
He is also the president of the Association of Speakers Clubs for the southern district.
The club starts at the United Reformed Church Hall in School Street, Sudbury, on Tuesday at 7pm, costing £5 per meeting.
