STORM DENNIS: Further disruption expected as strong winds forecast for Suffolk this weekend

Further stormy weather is expected to strike in and around the Sudbury area, after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning in its weekend forecast for the east of England.

Storm Dennis has been forecast to bring very strong winds to the region on Saturday, along with a high chance of rainfall, particularly in the late afternoon and evening.

It follows several days of disruption across the country caused by Storm Ciara, which swept across England last weekend and early this week.

The Met Office has stated it does not expect Storm Dennis to be quite as severe, but that there is still a possibility of disruption, such as potential loss of power and falling debris on roads.

Residents in south Suffolk have reported on social media of intermittent and prolonged power cuts to their homes over the past week, including outages in Great Waldingfield and Stoke-by-Nayland.

A number of trees were also blown over by the heavy winds, resulting in delays for traffic.

Sudbury and Haverhill Police confirmed it had attended the scene of a fallen tree in Melford Road, Acton, and praised the help of local farmers to clear the blockage.

Meanwhile, another tree was brought down across Liston Lane in Long Melford on Sunday morning.

This was subsequently cleared by volunteers from the Long Melford Country Park, supported by parish council chairman John Nunn.
