A student art exhibition with a difference is returning to the shops and businesses of Sudbury.

‘Sudbury as our Canvas’ was originally organised by Thomas Gainsborough School two years ago, with more than 200 pieces of art exhibited in 46 shop fronts, cafés and vacant retail units.

The unique project is now returning to Sudbury town centre in July – and will be expanded to include pieces from local primary school pupils as well as TGS students, past and present.

Assistant headteacher Ed Clark said: “The concept behind Sudbury as our Canvas was to bring the work of Sudbury’s young people to the local community and make it easier for them to experience and celebrate the talent and hard work on display.

“In these strange and challenging times, it is even more important to support the creativity of our young people and find innovative ways to exhibit them.

“We are also delighted to include ex-students, whose immense achievements have filled us with pride.”

Incoming head of visual arts Fran Raleigh added: “We are proud that we are showcasing inspirational pieces of work from an inspirational community, which is so supportive of the arts.”

The exhibition, which runs from July 5 to 16, will also include work from former students as part of an alumni exhibition.

An exhibition and performance showcase evening will be held at Thomas Gainsborough School on July 8, between 6pm and 8pm.
