St Gregory's Church reopens to public as lockdown restrictions begin to ease

St Gregory’s Church in Sudbury is reopening its doors to the public today after being closed for almost three months during the coronavirus lockdown.

Visitors are being welcomed to practice individual private prayer on Tuesdays, between 10am and noon, and on Fridays, between 4pm and 6pm.

Social distancing measures put in place to ensure the safety of the congregation will include a one-way system to enable visitors to enter and exit the church safely; along with hand sanitiser and clear signage.

While the venue in Gregory Street was closed during the lockdown, church services were hosted virtually via a video conferencing call, which attracted a large number of people.

Praising the response, the Rev Tom Mumford said: “We have seen more engagement with people in the town over this period than we have we seen in a long time.”

Highlighting the value of the church in the area, Mr Mumford added: “It’s been a place of comfort and solace for hundreds of years.”
