Sudbury GCSE results: Ormiston Sudbury Academy and Thomas Gainsborough School hail pupils’ progress and resilience
A Sudbury school is celebrating new heights in this morning’s GCSE results, reporting its best ever proportion of top grades in English and maths.
For the second year running, Ormiston Sudbury Academy has hailed the “significant uplift” in the performance of its year 11 students, with improvements across many subject areas.
Most notably, the school in Tudor Road reported a record percentage of pupils achieving grade 5 or higher in their maths and English GCSEs.
It also highlighted an impressive collection of grades 8 and 9 – the best marks possible – in maths and science, plus improved grades in languages and performing arts subjects.
High achievers include Lucas Martin, who earned eight GCSEs with grades 8 or 9; Felix Cookson, who picked up seven grades 8 and above; Justin Noynay, who gained a 7 or above in eight subjects; and Isaac Boorman, who scored grade 8 in five GCSEs.
In addition, Dania Goncalves obtained grade 9 in both English language and literature, as well as starred distinction grades in childcare and music.
Sally Morris, principal at Ormiston Sudbury Academy, said: “We are immensely proud of our Year 11 students.
“The percentage of students getting 5+ in both English and maths is the highest it has ever been.
“Their success truly reflects their dedication, resilience, and hard work, supported wholeheartedly by their families and our committed staff.
“We cannot wait to see all they will achieve as they move forward into their next chapter – whatever path they choose, we’re confident they will continue to excel and make their mark.”
Meanwhile, Thomas Gainsborough School has praised its Year 11 students for their commitment and resilience, following a strong set of GCSE results.
Headteacher Helen Yapp said: “Following our outstanding A-level results last week, we are delighted that our Year 11 students have also achieved highly at GCSE.
“They have shown themselves to be a committed and resilient year group who have made excellent progress and achieved GCSE results in line with last years.
“We are looking forward to welcoming many of them into our sixth form and wish them, and all our Year 11 students, every success and happiness in their chosen pathways.”
