A selfless six-year-old girl is set to sacrifice some of her hair in order to support young people suffering from cancer.

Jessie-May Jones, of Ballingdon Gardens, Sudbury, is donating her long locks to the Little Princess Trust – a charity which provides wigs to children and young people who have lost their hair during cancer treatment.

“She told her older sister, Sky, that someone needs her hair more than she does,” said Jessie-May’s father, Mark, who has been humbled by his daughter’s kindness.

“It will be a huge change for her. I am obviously very proud.”

Having watched a testimony about someone’s experience of donating their hair to the charity, Jessie-May, who goes to St Peter’s Primary School in Sible Hedingham, was keen to follow in their footsteps and support others.

“She’s absolutely adamant that she’s going to do it,” said Mr Jones. “Jessie loves her hair – she’s never had short hair.

“It’s a big thing for a six year old – it’s a drastic change,” he said, adding that his daughter is determined to see the challenge through.

“She’s always taken everything in her stride. Nothing has ever phased her.

“She’s very determined and is a lot like her mum.”

Jessie-May’s selfless act has attracted huge praise from family, friends and supporters, who have helped her achieve her target of £300 in a matter of days.

“She was amazed by how much she has raised,” said Mr Jones. “She’s had some lovely comments, too.”

Jessie-May will have her hair cut at Fatal Attraction hairdressers in Sudbury on March 5.
