Lipstick and Locks salon in Sudbury returns from coronavirus lockdown in style with 24-hour event

The owner of a Sudbury hair salon has commended the collective efforts of her team after hosting a successful event at the weekend.

Lipstick and Locks reopened on Saturday having been closed for three months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Keen to fulfil an overwhelming demand in bookings, the salon staged a 24-hour event, with appointments offered throughout the night.

Praising the event, salon owner Abigail Cutter said: “It was amazing; absolutely fantastic.”

The first appointment, which was auctioned online, raised £225 for the My Wish charity at West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds.

“It’s a great cause to support,” said Miss Cutter.

Delighted that the whole team had remained in high spirits throughout the event, Miss Cutter said: “We expected to be exhausted, but we were all so excited about reopening and the clients were all full of energy, too.”

Humbled by the continuing dedication of her staff, Miss Cutter said: “I’m blessed with the most amazing team; I’m so lucky that everyone is so positive and that they share the same work mentality, which is fantastic.”

Reflecting on the event, which is the first of its kind she has hosted, Miss Cutter said: “It was an absolute novelty; I have never worked throughout the night before.”

To satisfy the Government’s social distancing rules, a series of measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of both staff and customers.

Staff have been provided with perspex face shields, while all hairdressing gowns are put on a hot wash after each use to prevent any spread of germs.

“We are getting used to using the personal protective gear each day,” said Miss Cutter, adding that, despite the strict safety measures, she hoped clients would continue to receive a pleasant experience.

“I want people to like being here and to enjoy every moment,” she said. “We are really appreciative of their loyalty.”
