Pupils at Ormiston Sudbury Academy flexed their game brains when they took part in an inter-school chess tournament run by the Ormiston Academy Trust.

Entry into the competition came after the academy won funding to launch an after-school chess club.

Students from Year 11 competed against their opponents in an online version of the game.

Although Sudbury did not win, school principal Caroline Wilson said: “The chess club has proven to be very successful, allowing students to demonstrate their strategic thinking and further develop their creative ability.”
