A teenager is in hospital with life-threatening injuries, with another man arrested by police, following a serious traffic collision in Halstead at the end of last week.

Emergency services were called out shortly before 8.30pm on Friday, September 21, to reports that a red Honda motorbike and a silver Vauxhall van had collided with each other in High Street.

Paramedics treated the motorcyclist, an 18-year-old man, who sustained severe injuries as a result of the crash.

He was later transported by ambulance to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Essex Police officers also arrived at the scene, and subsequently arrested the van driver, a 22-year-old man from Halstead, on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He has since been released under investigation, pending further police inquiries.

An appeal has now been launched for witnesses to the crash to come forward.

Police would like to hear from anybody who was driving in the High Street area at the time stated, who saw anything, or who has any dashboard camera footage of the incident.

Anyone with any information about the collision is asked to telephone the roads policing unit on 101, quoting the incident number 1229 of September 21.
